The firm elects three new partners
Print PDFNutter McClennen & Fish LLP announced today that William J. Bernat, John A. McBrine, and Shagha Tousi have been elected partners.
William J. Bernat represents clients in a broad range of industries, including life sciences, technology, social media and consumer products, in connection with private equity, venture capital and angel financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance issues. A member of the Business department, he represents emerging and entrepreneurial companies across their entire lifespan, from initial planning and formation to operations and exit. Will also has significant experience representing major lending institutions and companies in complex multi-party financings and asset-based/commercial lending transactions. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Providence College.
John A. McBrine helps individuals and families achieve a broad range of estate planning goals, from preparing basic estate plans to developing and implementing strategies to minimize estate and gift tax consequences of wealth transfers across generations. A member of Nutter’s Trusts & Estates practice, he represents fiduciaries in all aspects of estate and trust administration, including before probate courts, the IRS and state revenue authorities. John serves as a trustee of private trusts and a charitable foundation director. He counsels public charities and private foundations with respect to formation, operation, grantmaking and tax compliance matters. He helps individuals and families structure a variety of charitable giving vehicles. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School, his M.S.W. from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Providence College.
Shagha Tousi focuses on complex civil disputes, with an emphasis on product liability litigation, as well as the defense of individuals and corporate entities before the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice, experienced in the full range of the litigation process, from pre-litigation counseling to jury trials. Shagha’s product liability practice is concentrated in the drug and medical device industries and she is currently representing a multi-national medical device manufacturer in state and multi-district litigation involving prosthetic hip implants and spinal devices. As part of her white collar defense practice, Shagha has represented a wide range of clients in investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the head of Investor Relations at a Fortune 100 company in an insider trading investigation, the CMO of a Fortune 500 financial services company in a SEC disclosure investigation, and a prominent physician in an insider trading investigation. Shagha also represents several companies in actions enforcing non-competition agreements with former employees. Shagha devotes a significant amount of time to civic and pro bono matters. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of Legal Advocacy and Resource Center and the Boston Bar Association’s subcommittee on the Public Interest Leadership Program. She received her J.D. from Boston College Law School, her M.B.A. from Boston College Carroll Graduate School of Management, and her B.S., magna cum laude, from Boston College.
